Human hair extensions: care guide
Start with the instructions for your exact product and attachment method. Care for removable clip-ins and halo pieces differs from care for fitted tape-ins, wefts and keratin bonds. A stylist should advise on fitted methods; there is no single washing schedule or heat setting that suits every attachment.
Detangle gently
Support the hair near its attachment. Work from the ends upwards in small sections, releasing knots without pulling. Remove detachable clip-in and halo pieces before washing them separately.
Wash without rubbing
Follow the product instructions when choosing shampoo or conditioner. Clean gently along the lengths, rinse thoroughly and avoid twisting or rubbing the hair together. Check whether conditioners and oils are suitable near the attachment.
Dry and style carefully
Press excess water out with a towel instead of wringing. Follow the product instructions for drying. Use heat only where permitted, keep it away from attachments and ask a stylist before chemical processing.
Store removable pieces dry
Let detachable pieces dry fully, detangle them and store them clean without tangling the clips, wire or lengths together. Inspect the attachment before each use.
Check the fit
Ask your stylist about maintenance and removal of fitted extensions. Do not pull out bonds or tapes yourself. If wearing extensions causes pain or persistent irritation, stop adding tension and seek appropriate advice.
